A disturbance over the northern Gulf of Mexico should drift toward the west-southwest over the next few days.  Regardless of development, heavy rain (locally 2 to 4 inches or more) could spread inland across coastal sections of Texas and Louisiana.  Meanwhile, a cold front should spark scattered Southeastern showers, which may linger for much of the week.  Farther north, Midwestern heat will briefly return around the middle of the week, with most areas topping 90°F—and some western Corn Belt locations reaching 95°F or higher.
