Milk production in the top 24 U.S. dairy states was fractionally higher in June.
The USDA says production was 18.128 billion pounds, up 0.3% on the year, with average production per cow climbing 20 pounds to 2,031 pounds per cow, mostly canceling out a 65,000 head loss in the herd to 8.926 million head.
California produced the most milk and had the largest herd, followed by Wisconsin in both categories, while Michigan claimed the top spot in yield.
