The USDA says more beef was produced in June 2022 than any other June on record. That is due in part to herd liquidation in some states that are being heavily impacted by drought.
Commercial beef production was 2.453 billion pounds, up 2% on the year, with a 3% increase in the slaughter to 3.041 million head canceling out a seven-pound loss in the average live weight at 1,339 pounds.
The June 2022 dairy cow slaughter was 233,000 head, up 7,800 from May, but down 4,500 from June 2021.
