Direct cash cattle trade is quiet following the scattered light business that took place on Wednesday. Packer inquiry is expected to improve as the day progresses. Asking prices are around $151 to $152 live in the South and $244 to $245 dressed in the North. Bids haven’t been floated yet. On Wednesday live deals in Texas were marked at $149 and a few dressed deals were pegged at $242 to $243.
Boxed beef is higher at midday on solid demand for light offerings. Choice is $1.51 higher at $264.98 and Select is $.53 higher at $233.69. The Choice/Select spread is $31.29.
At the Huss Livestock Market in Nebraska, compared to last week steer calves under 650 pounds were steady to $6 higher.
