Another quiet start for direct cash cattle business. Bids have yet to surface and asking prices are at $152 live in the South, while the North has been quiet. Significant trade volume isn’t expected to develop until midweek or later.
Boxed beef is higher at midday on strong demand for moderate offerings. Choice is $1.21 higher at $265.76 and Select is $.93 higher at $246.85. The Choice/Select spread is $28.91.
At the Callaway Livestock Center in Missouri, compared to last week, steer calves 400 to 500 pounds and 550 to 600 pounds were mostly $3 to $7 lower than the previous week’s very active market.
