Later in the week, heavy showers may return across portions of the Deep South, primarily from the central Gulf Coast to the southern Atlantic States.  Much of the remainder of the country will experience warm, tranquil weather, except for showers gradually spreading eastward from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Plains and upper Midwest.  In fact, dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days in much of California and the Southwest, as well as the eastern Corn Belt and the Northeast.
