South-Central Nebraska farmer Doug Saathoff says crops will struggle during this week’s extreme temperatures when highs approach 100 degrees.
“We just don’t have a lot of subsoil moisture going into this year. It’s hard to stay ahead when the temperatures are getting over 90. We’re starting to get some wind so that makes it worse.”
Areas of the Great Plains will see daytime highs in the middle to upper 90s and Saathoff tells Brownfield many farmers have been irrigating for awhile.
