Western rainfall will gradually diminish, although some monsoon-related moisture may maintain showery conditions over the next few days in the Southwest. Farther east, dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days from the southern Plains into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. Any Midwestern rain will be light, aside from some heavier showers in the Great Lakes region. A significant, late-season heat wave will accompany the mostly dry weather across the nation’s mid-section, although cooler air will overspread the northern Corn Belt by Friday and the southern Corn Belt by Saturday.
