Showers in the southern Atlantic region may become better organized as the week progresses, with formation of a low-pressure system possible. Regardless of development, tropically enhanced showers should spread northward into the middle Atlantic States toward week’s end. Meanwhile, a slow-moving storm system over the nation’s mid-section will result in active weather. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches or more across the northern Plains and upper Midwest, with higher amounts possible in locally severe thunderstorms over the southeastern Plains and mid-South.
