A southern Illinois farmer is pleased with yields considering a dryer than average growing season.
Terry Wilkerson grows corn, soybeans and winter wheat near Dahlgren and says when it comes to rainfall, “It seems like we barely had enough, but I guess barely enough is enough.”
He says yields fall short of the last couple of seasons but are better than expected.
“Overall we probably averaged somewhere in the 180’s on corn and we are in the 60’s just short of the 70’s on beans as far as across the whole farm.”
Wilkerson says he started harvesting after Labor Day and finished up corn within a couple of weeks.
