Marshalltown Fire crews as of Saturday morning continued to fight a fire at a downtown apartment building called the Villager. All residents got out okay and are accounted for. The building is a total loss and a shelter was set up at the Veterans Coliseum Building and the American Red Cross is assisting. The Villager is on North Center Street just north of State Street and served low income residents. A part of North Center Street has been blocked off. The fire broke out about 11:00 o’clock Friday night. Downtown Marshalltown had a smoky odor to it Saturday morning. Resident David Perry in a Facebook response to Marshalltown Broadcasting said he is homeless and will have to go back to living with his mother. He says he was also part of another fire at the Villager that took place several years ago. He says both were scary experiences especially this latest fire.
