The threat for excessive rainfall and local flooding will persist for the remainder of the week across Florida’s peninsula, where additional totals could reach 4 to 12 inches or more.  Some forecast guidance suggests that additional tropical moisture could surge northward from the western Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico during the weekend or early next week, leading to the potential for heavy showers in other parts of the Gulf Coast States.  During the next 5 days, much of the remainder of country will experience hot, mostly dry weather, aside from some locally heavy late-week and weekend thunderstorms from the central Plains into the upper Midwest.
