Last night at the Marshalltown City Council Meeting, David Hicks, YSS County Director, gave the quarterly report for MPACT, Marshalltown Police and Community Team. He notes that the data is from January thru May of this year.
Hicks notes that MPACT has received funds to help battle homelessness in Marshall County. They have used those funds to help house people for a night or two.
The beauty behind the MPACT program is having the two advocates, Tiffany Beadle and Suzy Robinson. They follow up with the individuals to make sure they are getting the help they need.
Recently Hicks, the advocates, and Detective Lageschutle went to the National Co-Responder Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
The success MPACT has seen in our small community is being shared to people across the Nation. Hicks ends his comments by reminding the City Council that this program started 4 years ago with just an idea.
Initially Hicks asked for $25,000 to try out this idea, but Gary Thompson suggested giving them $150,000 to fund this program for a year and it was wildly successful ever since.
