The Red, White, and Blue Celebration in Marshalltown kicked off last year in the 13th Street District with the Classic Car Crise In. Cars were lined into the Iowa Veterans Home allowing Veterans to come out and see some of the nice cars. The parade was also close so Veterans could see and the fireworks moved to the 6th Street Softball diamonds which could be seen from the Veterans home.
That is Iowa Commandant Todd Jacobus who has made his office at the Iowa Veterans Home. He says they can transport residents but that does limit the number of people who can attend events.
With the Veterans Home in Marshalltown and Marshall County erecting a statue honoring all of the military branches, Jacobus was asked if Marshalltown and Marshall County is truly the Veterans Capital of Iowa.
Jacobus says they get incredible support from all across the state at the Iowa Veterans Home. He says Marshalltown was the perfect spot for the Iowa Veterans Home being in the center of the state.
