Yesterday another iconic building in Marshalltown was torn down, the Pink Flamingo Motel.  The Pink Flamingo opened back in 1957 and sat along old Highway 30.  According to the Marshall County Beacon website, the Motel was purchased by Wahl and Associates LLC on December 10th.  Wahl and Associates is owned by Zach Wahl.

Wahl said via email, “Flamingo Motel was a historic staple of Marshalltown, known for its legendary flamingo statue. We will be preserving this iconic piece of our community. The motel has certainly seen better days, and it holds countless stories within its walls. However, it has also faced significant challenges, including crime, illegal activity, and safety concerns regarding its structure. Our goal is to revitalize this property, and we’re actively engaged in development plans and keeping our options open. We encourage others along Highway 30 to join us in cleaning up and enhancing the entrance to Marshalltown, paving the way for a brighter community.”

He says the giant pink flamingo and vintage sign will be preserved.
