Iowa’s Michael Fitzgerald is now the longest serving State Treasurer in U.S. history.
Fitzgerald passed the longevity mark last week after 36 years and three days.
Fitzgerald, a Democrat, was first elected state treasurer in 1982, when he was 30 years old. He’s now 67, just reelected in November to his 10th term, and not ruling out a run for an 11th in 2022.
