Janice Thorn, age 99, of Marshalltown passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Iowa River Hospice House.
Funeral services for Janice will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at 11:30 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with a visitation taking place one hour prior, beginning at 10:30 AM. Born Janice Cordt on June 9, 1921 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Lange) Cordt. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1939. Janice went on to attend the Iowa School of Hair Styling and obtain her degree in cosmetology. She worked at Skinners Beauty Salon for several years. She then went on to work for 30 years as a cosmetologist for the Iowa Veterans Home before retiring in 1983.
In her free time, Janice enjoyed going dancing, gardening, reading and cooking. She was well-known for her “world famous family fudge” that she made at Christmastime. She was a very kind, sweet and loving mother and overall very caring person.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dan (Diana) Thorn of Marshalltown; her daughter Susan Lang (Bill McDowell) of Lake Mills, WI; grandchildren Angela Gallentine of Conrad, April (Matthew) Nevins of Gladbrook and Eleanor Pigman of St. Petersburg, FL; and great-grandchildren Peyton, Norah, Finley and Calusa.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Lang; second husband Walter “Cecil” Thorn; her parents, Carl and Gladys; and her brothers Jim Cordt and Robert Cordt.
