The state veterinarian says Missouri has confirmed the first
case of Vesicular Stomatitis – in a horse in southwest Missouri’s Newton
County.

Missouri is the seventh state to confirm the virus this
year.  The Missouri Department of
Agriculture is urging horse owners to monitor their livestock closely and call
their vet if symptoms occur.

All animals on the affected premises have to be quarantined
for at least 14 days. The virus can infect both horses and cattle but is not
fatal.
