Iowa egg producers who were forced to euthanize hens because of COVID-19-related marketing challenges are now eligible for the Iowa Disposal Assistance Program (IDAP).
The Iowa Department of Agriculture says egg producers who euthanized and properly disposed of laying hens between April 1st and July 20th are eligible to receive 25 cents per layer hen.
In the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when most
restaurants, schools and other foodservice markets shut down, the demand for
liquid eggs plummeted.
