This fall Northern Michigan University has added an indoor agriculture associate’s degree.

The two-year program prepares students for agricultural food production and medicinal plant production careers while they learn about indoor growing systems.

The university converted an aviation lab on the Marquette campus to house multiple growing systems which currently produce peas, cucumbers, yellow peppers, eggplants, lettuce and kale.

It is the nation’s first cannabis-focused associate’s degree and includes certificates specific to the cannabis industry including business, agriculture, law and policy, and healthcare and medicine.
