A disturbance crossing the Southwest will gather moisture after moving east of the southern Rockies later in the week. By Friday, locally heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop across the mid-South and environs. During the weekend, rain showers will overspread much of the remainder of the South and East, while some snow may fall across the Midwest. Cooler air will trail the storm system, ending a period of unusual warmth across the nation’s mid-section.
