The USDA says soil moisture levels are a concern in much of Iowa ahead of planting.

The state did see measurable snowfall mid-month and parts of central and southern portions of Iowa got more than a foot of snow during the last full week of January, but more will be needed to fully recharge.

Mild temperatures have helped limit livestock stress, with grazing on corn stalks reported, along with the start of calving and lambing season, but some east central parts of the state report issues due to ice.
