The Marshall County Arts & Culture Alliance has partnered with the City of Marshalltown to do a sidewalk poetry project in the new pocket park being created between City Hall and the Coliseum off State Street this Summer.
The Alliance has commissioned Iowa poet Akwi Nji who will be facilitating conversations with community members who have stories to share about their experience during/after the tornado.
Akwi will then take those stories and turn them into 10 different poems that will be stamped into the concrete throughout the pocket park. The poems will tell our community’s story of resiliency.
Learn more about Akwi as she she joins KFJB on “Getting to Know you” which you can hear below. You can also visit https://www.akwinji.com/ to learn more about Akwi.
