Each year the nation dedicates the month of April to raise awareness for Child Abuse Prevention. Locally Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) strives to highlight prevention efforts in our community, and this year is no different. This year’s prevention month theme is Great Childhoods make Great Communities: Make Great Childhoods Happen. Beginning on April 2nd Marshalltown residents will see the Blue Kids appear along the roads. The Blue Kids help remind families to spend a little extra quality time together by playing a favorite game, reading a favorite book, or trying something new as a family! CAPS will also facilitate a Community Forum at the Marshalltown Public Library in two sessions on April 18th. These sessions will take place at 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Attendees will hear a brief overview of the resources and programs available at CAPS, and then will have the opportunity to ask CAPS staff questions about programs and their experiences. Light refreshments will be provided at each session. In addition to the forum, CAPS is again hosting a Child Abuse Prevention Rally at the Marshall County Courthouse. This rally will highlight some of the positive things going on in our community in the effort to prevent child abuse, along with providing community members information about how they can make childhoods happen. Keep an eye on the Child Abuse Prevention Services Facebook page and website at www.capsonline.us for helpful tools and more information about the things going on in the month of April.
