Mixed media artist Steve Hosch will host the Ames Community Arts Council’s monthly Gathering of Artists on Tuesday, September 11 from 6 – 8 p.m. The gathering will be held at Hosch’s home studio, 217 Stumbo Circle, Gilbert, Iowa. Artists and art enthusiasts of all types are invited to meet other artists, get feedback, get inspired and have fun. The events are free and open to all. Refreshments will be provided.
A mostly self-taught artist, Steve Hosch’s artistic journey began as a child when he searched the riverbanks, woods, and trash heaps in and around his Northeast Iowa hometown, dragging home oddities that caught his eye. Even now, that treasure hunting kid is still alive and well, transforming the seemingly mundane into works of art. Sometimes playful, sometimes dark, for the most part his art is an attempt to question, poke fun at, or criticize human nature–particularly the consumer, fear-driven version of human nature that seems to dominate today’s American culture.
There will not be a Gathering in October. The next Gathering will be at the studio of Linda Hardie [5847 Arrasmith Trail, Ames] from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
The Gathering of Artists is hosted by the Ames Community Arts Council and made possible with the support of the City of Ames Commission on the Arts. If you would like more information about participating in or hosting a gathering, please contact the Ames Community Arts Council by e-mailing info@amesart.org, visiting the website at www.amesart.org, or calling 515-233-6110.
