The Marshalltown City Council on Monday set a date for the vote on the proposed new police and fire station for Marshalltown for Tuesday, August 2, 2016. If passed, which would take a sixty percent majority, the cost of the project would not exceed 17.5 million dollars. The project would be located at South Second and West Anson Streets. In other action Council approved a proposal to give $30,000 from capital improvement funds to Trails Inc. in their continuing drive to fund paving of the Iowa River Trail in Marshall County. Council also approved the idea of renaming a street in honor of local attorney Rex Ryden. The street is in an industrial part of Marshalltown`s east side.
