A number of Licensed Massage Therapists appeared before the Marshalltown City Council last night to ask questions and talk about their thoughts on a proposed ordinance regulating massage therapy businesses in the City. The objections were not about trying to keep illicit operators who might run such a business as a front for human trafficking or drugs. However, Tasha Schanthorst, owner of Aspirations Salon in downtown Marshalltown noted that there were redundancies between the City’s proposed ordinance and the state licensing requirements.
The Council voted to table the ordinance and directed the City Attorney to review the comments and issues discussed last night. The issue is expected back on the Council’s agenda for its January 8th meeting.
