U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has designated Deuel County, South Dakota a natural disaster area because of excessive moisture and flooding since the beginning of last year. That allows the Farm Service Agency to extend emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters. Emergency loans can be used to replace essential equipment or livestock, or to reorganize the farming operation or refinance certain debts.
The same goes for the contiguous South Dakota counties of Brookings, Codington, Grant, and Hamlin, along with Lac Qui Parle, Lincoln, and Yellow Medicine counties in Minnesota.
