Outgoing House Ag Committee Chairman Collin Peterson has endorsed fellow committee member David Scott of Georgia to succeed him as Chair.
In a letter, Peterson says he supports Scott’s candidacy because of his seniority and work on issues like food programs for the poor and safety nets for farmers.
Peterson was defeated by Republican Michelle Fishback in Minnesota’s Seventh District.
California Congressman Jim Costa is also vying for the ag committee chairmanship. He has picked up endorsements from more than 70 farm groups so far, with most of them from his home state.
