Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack said Mexico’s phasing out of GMO corn does not currently include corn used for animal feed…
“The importation only relates to corn used for food products,” Vilsack said.
The trade partner has vowed to phase out all GMO corn use in the next three years. Vilsack said there is a process under the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement to have conversations about Mexico’s concerns.
“I think it is important to distinguish between what Mexico is currently thinking about doing and the fact that it’s not going to have as great an impact as it would if it’s everything, all at once, all now,” he said.
