There are silver linings for farmers dealing with a dry start to the growing season.

Scott Johnson, a technical agronomist for DEKALB Asgrow in north-central Iowa, says moisture has been a concern all spring.

“That’s something that has impacted our planting, both good and bad. It’s been dry, so we’ve been able to get corn and beans in in what seems like a record pace. So it seems like we got in very timely.”

He tells Brownfield dry soils are resulting in uneven emergence, but the lack of moisture has also limited weed pressure.
