An evening of varied discussion during the Marshalltown City Council meeting last night. The Council continued to look at more housing for the city, approving a couple of items for a developments on South 6th Street and South 7th Avenue.

The Council also received an update on the three-point-seven million dollars the City is anticipating to receive through the federal America Rescue Plan. City Administrator Jessica Kinser laid out some options for the funds, which would need to be focused on areas of town with a high poverty rate, including more affordable housing. She also noted the funds could assist with loss of income, which the City is facing with the repeal of the property tax levy by the state.

Kinser added all the information regarding the America Rescue Plan is still being finalized by the Biden Administration. Marshall County is forecast to receive seven million dollars in similar funding.
