The first draft of the legislative redistricting plan has some folks cheering and others breathing a sigh of relief. The non-partisan agency that drew up the maps really redrew the congressional districts, but did not set up any potential incumbent versus incumbent showdowns. The plan shows Marshall, Story, Tama, Hardin and Grundy counties among those moving into a geographically enlarged 2nd Congressional District, currently represented by Mariannette MIller-Meeks. The First District, represented by Ashley Hinson would be expanded to the south to include the Quad Cities down to the southeast border.

One of the area districts that has two incumbents now combined in the dame district would be the Senate District 24, where Jeff Edler of State Center and Annette Sweeney of Buckeye could go head to head in 2022. Elsewhere, it appears as if incumbents in both the Senate and the House would be spared running against an incumbent from their own party.
