Rain and snow showers, currently confined to the nation’s northern tier, will slowly engulf the West before spreading eastward. By week’s end, only the Deep South, including the southern Plains, southern Atlantic States, and Gulf Coast region, will remain completely dry. However, precipitation will not be particularly heavy in the western U.S., except from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies. Notably, an area stretching from California to the central Rockies will receive beneficial but generally light precipitation during the mid- to late-week period.
