There are a few conditions that must happen in order for the National Weather Service to issue a blizzard warning, and they don’t necessarily have to do with snow falling from the sky. There must be sustained wind gusts of at least 35 mph and visibility must be reduced to a quarter of a mile. These conditions must be sustained for at least three hours or more for a blizzard warning to be issued. The blizzard warning in Iowa will continue through Saturday morning. Wind gusts will reduce visibility and blow snow back onto the road, causing dangerous driving conditions.  There have been multiple reports across the state of trucks, trailers, and other cars piled up in the ditch.
