Shirley Ann Price, 87, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.

Memorial services for Shirley will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Shirley Ann Martin was born on February 26, 1936 in Marshalltown to Wilford “Pokey” and Dorothy (Wagoner) Martin. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1955 and went on to receive her degree in Accounting from Gates College. On September 6, 1958, Shirley was united in marriage to Merrill “Sonny” Price at the Nazarene Church in Marshalltown. Shirley and Sonny moved out of the area due to Sonny’s deployment and employment. They lived in Kansas, Chicago and Indiana, before moving back home to Marshalltown in January of 2002. Shirley had worked in real estate and as an accountant for the North Western Railroad credit union.

Shirley and Sonny had a passion for restoring and indexing cemeteries in Marshall County. They first took on this task in 1974 and re-indexed the information in 2003. Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a past regional President. She was a very “traditional” person and loved to volunteer in her free time, especially helping at the visitor’s bureau, folding the chamber papers.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, Merrill; daughter: Stephenie (Randy) Stites of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Taylor, Jordon, Dylan, Timothy, Ashlee and Corey. Great-grandchildren: Greyson, Tyler and Lily and sister: Marlee (Lyle) Airey. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law: Katherine and sister-in-law: Katherine Pfifer.

Shirley is preceded in death by her son: Greg; parents: Wilford and Dorothy and her brother: Gene Martin.
