The Utah Jazz have climbed over the Houston Rockets as the two teams battle for the NBA’s final Western Conference playoff berth.
Gordon Hayward had a team-high 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Jazz beat the Rockets 117-114 in overtime. Hayward hit a free throw with 17 seconds left in regulation to put the Jazz ahead by three, but the Rockets forced overtime on Jason Terry’s 3-pointer with 10.8 seconds left.
Derrick Favors finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds to help Utah overcome James Harden’s game-high 42 points. Favors hit a putback for the final points before Terry missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Dwight Howard had 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Rockets, who dropped a half-game behind Utah in the standings.
