A storm that included straight line winds and horizontal rain blew through the listening area late Wednesday afternoon leaving lots of tree damage in the area almost too numerous to numerate. Winds of 60 to 70 miles per hour were reported, a gust of 59 in Marshalltown and 69 miles per hour at Albion. Marshalltown received 1.26 inches worth of rain. The high temperature in Marshalltown Wednesday afternoon was 80 and the temperature dropped 20 degrees during the process of the storm. Alliant Energy still was reporting power outages early Thursday morning, 28 in Marshalltown, 3 in Conrad and 2 at McCallsburg. Again lots of tree damage as the result of straight line winds. The Riverside Cemetery was hard hit and clean up will be underway there according to General Manager Dorrie Tammen with days to go before Memorial Day. The are some roads in Marshalltown that were blocked off including a small part of South Second Street just south of downtown. A funnel cloud was reported at Traer, hail was reported at Ames.
